Sequence variation in the RNA
Dr. Cheung and her colleagues study RNA. Traditionally one thinks that DNA contains information for cellular function. Her lab shows that there are additional information in the RNA sequences that are not in the DNA. In their study to understand these RNA-DNA sequence differences (RDDs), they uncovered that senataxin, the mutated protein in ALS4, plays a role in RDD formation. In this talk at the NIH, she describes how their research in RNA biology leads to a better understanding of ALS4.
